On the recommendation of the Works and Finance Committee, grants for works and supplies at tiie following schools were authorised:-Shannon. rifle rack; Eketanuna, repairs sash, and renewal cords; Aopnaranga, copper' ond stand, new blinds; Heikorangi, residence metalling, tank and stand; Otaki, metalling, subsidy, committee to find balance required; Scarborough, metalling; Whakataki, residence —repairs tank, range, etc.; Petone Wept, grading and gravelling; Mauriceville W., repairs to residence; Lansdowne, site and icncing; Petone District High School, c.rainage and grading; Piikehinau, ground improvements, gravel subsidy; Wharcama, subsidy; Taratahi West, subsidy. Jt was also iesolvecl that furflier representation be made of the great ne«d for increased accommodation at N«aio. A letter froin llio Wadestown School Loitimittee asking for incn-ea?cd accommodation was referred to the inspectors for report.
A memorandum from the Government declining to make a grant to the board or a. school at Xewlands was received, in view of the r-ircnmslancrs thai Ihn flonalioii uf land was in danger of lspMng, the board, after a briof difcussion, decided to ask the owner, .Airs. Murphy, to keep her offer open for six months. * Consideration of applications for grants for works and supplies for the Ilutt District High .School, Eastern Ilutt School, and Cross Creek School wer" deferred pending replies from the respective committees.
Library subsidies were authorised for Kilbirnic! (.£5.1 and Tane (£1 os.). The clerk of works was instructed to visit tne Terrace School and report re sanitation aud water supply. The Education Department intimated that in connection with the board's application for a grant for Waterfalls the matter will bo considered in three months' time, when application may be renewed. SCHOOL SITES. The board resolved with regard to the following school sites:— Vogeltown.—That tho uso of tho site during the pleasure of the board be granted to -Mr. Ikxworthy, provided that within two months it is grubbed thoroughly clear of noxious weeds. Plinimerton.—That the committee which dealt with this matter be empowered to make the best arrangements possible for obtaining cither tho leasehold or freehold of a suitable site. Waihoanga.—That the attendance does not at present justify purchase of additional land. Tablelands.—That the site having been surrendered, building proceed as soon as tho roads and weather permit. Taueru.—That the board does not make allowance for accommodation of horses used by school children in the way proposed by the committee. TEXDEKS. Tenders for works were accepted as follow :— Manukau.—Eesidcnce, washhouse, L. Arcus, £31 6s. Taueru.—Residence, liatiironm and washhouse, also-new spouting, .£ls 12s.
