Mrs. C. T. Salmon (Palmerston North), and her small ton, are visitors to Wellington, and are tho gucat-s of Mrs. M'Vicai - . -T.-ady Clifford and her two daughters left for tho south on Monday. Miss Rmrson has gone on a visit to Culverdon. Mr. Hine. M.P., and Mrs. Hine, together with their family, have arrived in town from Toko. Sir Arthur Guinness, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lady Guinness, and Miss Guinness, have arrived in town for the session. Miss Way, of Cashmere Hills, Christchnrch, who has teen staying with relations at Napier, is at present visiting friends at Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. wT"G. Kutherford, of ■\\airnate, arc visiting Auckland. Lady Carroll, wife of the Acting-Prime Minister, will (owing to illness amongst her relatives) be unable to be present at tho opening of Parliament at AVellington on Thursday, as is always customary on tho part of the wife of the head of the Government. Lady Carroll hopes to be able to proceed to Wellington in the course of a month. A marriage has been arranged (says an English paper) between Mr. Paul Ewart Frankau, of 64 Grosvenor Street, and Mari Farm, Marandellas, Salisbury, Rhodesia, second sou of the lato Arthur Frankau and Mrs. Julia Frankau, and Miss Frances Ulrica de Burgh Miller, daughter of Samuel Bradshaw Miller, or Te Puke, New Zealand. Mrs. Julia Frankau, mother of the prospective bridegroom, is well known in New Zealand ns "Frank Danby," tho novelist. On Saturday evening the settlers of Ballance gave- a farewell social for Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Jamieson, who are making a new home at Hopelands. The guests of the evening w.ere presented with a handsome salad bowl, bread fork, and barometer, the bowl and barometer bearing a suitable inscription upon them.
