Captain Eckford, her present owner and master, bought her from Captain Rindon, and it is understood ,thnt she will be employed running out of Nelson, for which port she leaves Wellington on Thursday with cargo. Speaking to a reporter. Captain Eckford said that he had experienced a terrible time, since leaving Gishorno at 9 p.m. on Friday last. "We ran into a heavy northeast galo directly wo got out," he said, "and this lasted until daybreak. Then tho wind chopped round to ths eastward, and it blew hard from that quarter until Saturday afternoon. We were hovc-to in u south-west gale all Saturday night, about 20 or 30 miles south-east of Castlcpoint. Wo got under way again at. daybreak on Sunday, and it was still blowing hard from the snuth-west. Itaiu? Why it has done nothing else since we left Gisborne. We didn't sight land from the time we left until we sighted Cape Palliser on Monday afternoon. We were hove-to again on Monday night. It was very thick, too, and a very big sea was running. My word, she is a fine little boat," he said in conclusion, "and we are jolly glad that we arc in port to-night." Mr. M'Lean is mate and Mr. Greenwood (late Opawa) is engineer of the vcsecl.
