PETONE AGITATION.

THAT BUKAL COURSE. That much-discussed question, the agitation for the establishment of a rural course of education for Petonc, concerning which a conference was held at the Education Hoard office on Monday evening, came m> for settlement at. the board's .meeting yesterday, when Sir. "W. '. 11. Field, M.1 , ., moved:— "That this board communicate with the Committee of the Petono District High School and the Petono Tcchni-' en I School with a view to the establishment of a- rural course for the above'' district high school at the Technical School, and that having obtained the acquiescence and co-opera-tion of the above committee and board, such rural course shall bo established, and that the chief inspector bo instructed to report to the. board the best method of giving effect to t]i(» resolution." The mover remarked that , the conference of the previous evening appeared to have cleared the air, and tho parties had departed quite salislied. Both Mr. A. U. Vile and Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P., referring to the results of the experiment; of introducing the rural course into the Jlasterton District High School, remarked that the teaching staff were well satisfied with the results. Mr. Hogg lidded that tho Masterton School had been somewhat, misrepresented •in this matter by certain newspapers, which had suggested that the rural course was very far from being a blessing in disguise. Mr. T. E. Fleming quoted from a report of one of the. Government inspectors upon this subject, which was highly creditable to the result, of the leaching of nature .science and elementary agriculture in the. Wairarapa schools." Tho motion was carried.
