SOCIALISTS AND THE ARMY.
THE VOICE OF TIIE YOUNG MEN
At tho termination of the first mooting of tho Wellington branch of tho New Zealand Anti-Conscription League, which was held at His Majesty's Theatre on Sunday evening nearly tho whole of tho young men who had attended assembled lit tho corner of Taranaki and Manners Streets and passed the following, resolution, without dissent, and amidst great cheering:— "That we, young men of New Zealand, representing tho coming generation, desiro to placo on record our ■ unqualified approval of the compulsory military training, and pledge ourselves to do everything in our power to mako tho scheme n success." Speaking to the motion, tho chairman of tho gathering said that (ho speakers in the ,theatre had used no arguments against tho scheme, but had contented themselves with abuse. The meeting of young men, ho continued, was held to strengthen tho hands of tho nrilifcirv authorities in carrying out their difficult duties, and as an indication to the wouldbe M.P.'s that unless they supported the new scheme they need not depend upon the votes of tho young men at the next election. Now (hat they had plainly indicated their opinion concerning the" newscheme, no doubt tho Socialists would be permitted to meet in iioace hereafter. Tho meeting concluded with tho National Anthem.
