CARDIFF RIOTS.
NATIONAL STOPPAGE URGED. By Teloeraph— Press Association—Copyrieht (Rec. July 21, 10.20 p.m.) London, July 2i. The seamen on strike at Cardiff, including a formidable hooligan element, made a concerted attack on the skating rink, which is being used for the quarters for the imported Metropolitan police. The riot continued throughout Saturday night. The police drove the mob into the street, but showers of broken bottles and bags filled with si ones necessitated truncheon charges. The police also struck dozens of strikers with their fists. Jinny shop-fronts were wrecked, and (ho windows of private houses were broken. Twenty of the police were seriously hurt. Jlv. Ben Tillett, the Labour leader, speaking at Victoria Park to the transport workers' organisation, said they had more power to stop British food supplies than all the Dreadnoughts in the ' world. They were to-day conferring with capitalists representing a thousand millions sterling, and there must be no hesitation. He asked all transport workers to support a London stoppage of work.
