THE WEATHER.
FORECAST AND SUMMARY. Present indications are for cold and stormy weather, heavy rain generally, and snow on higher levels in the south. The rivers will probably be flooded on tho eastern coast of both islands. Southerly winds, strong to gale, will probably prevail, and a rising barometer everywhere shortly. A southerly storm has developed with a falling barometer in the north and a rise in the south. Heavy ram has fallen in parts, and much snow in the South Island. Wanganui, July 24.—Sunday was very wot and stormy. On Monday the wind moderated, but frequent heavy showers fell.' -Foilding, July 24.-Rain. Palmerston, July 24.—Raining intermittently all day; temperature warm. Shannon, July 24.—Rain began to fall here on, Saturday afternoon, and has continued with little intermission ever since. Otaki, July 24.—Rain fell fairly consistently on Sunday and to-day. Weather colder. Feathcreton, July 24.-Rain commenced on Saturday, afternoon, and thero was a heavy southerly gale on Sunday!.'night. Tho weather to-day shows signs of clearing. Greytown. July 24.-Tho weathor has been very wet since Saturday. There has been almost continuous rain with southerly wind. Temperature (at 9 a.m. to-day). 42deg. F. ~..,.'" Masterton, July 24.-The Rev. A. Hodge reported at 6 o'clock to-night for the previous 24 hours as follows:—Shade temperature, maximum 58.6 degrees, minimum 45 degrees, mean 51.8 degrees; earth radiation, 40 degrees; earth temperature (Ift. below ground), 43 degrees; wind, calm; weather, calm after a blustery morning; heavy rain still falling; not so cold.
