MEN'S BROTHERHOOD.

A RECENT PRISON CASE. Tho usual .Sunday afternoon gathering under the auspices of the Wellington Men's Brotherhood was held in the Druid's Hall yesterday afternoon when there- was a largo attendance, despite the unfavourable elements. The Rev. E. 0. Manures occupied the chair, and in opening the meeting, mentioned the recent case of Helen Briggs which had occupied so much public attention. Special speakers had been invited lo give their experience, of this and other similar cases. ■

Mr. Blamires, who was received with applause, spoke, feolihgly of the sad case referred to, and paid handsome tributes to Mr. E. Arnold, V.J.. who had done s) much, not only for this girl, but for so many others. Mrs. Blamires hold that it .was quite time that the Brotherhood added to their already good work a new branch by securing Hie assistance of some gnod lady to devote all of her time to speaking'kindly lo girls in cases where thev had fallen, and so prevent them from entering prison. Finally Mrs. Blamires cirne-tly appealed to all present for each to du their little towards helping the weak, Ihe poor, and tho needy, and assured thorn that they would learn to lore their labours fyn as Christ loved lo work amongst tho poor ami Mr. E. Arnold. V.J.. and vice-president, of the Brotherhood, next addressed tho meeting, and gave particulars of Ins two visits to tho young woman rclerred .to whilo slie was in prison. He gave several instances of similar. casos nud supported Hie appeal for the nidi utioii ot a sister in connection with the Brotherhood with ■, now of assisting the fallen, helping the poor, and nursing the sick. . V resolution was passed that n visiting sister bo engaged in connection with the Brotherhood lo carry out duties as outlined by Mrs. Blamires and Mr. Arnold, and a- sum of nearly vClt per annum wa; bv members of tho audience.
