MANAWATU HUNT.
(By Telciraph.—Special Correspondent.! • Palmerston, July 23. The Manawatu Hunt Club held a successful run with the hounds on. Saturday afternoon. The run started from Ka'ngitikei Line, ami, after a couple of "checks," tho "kill" took place near, tho residence of Mr. ll.' M'Ewen at Bunnythorpe. There was an excellent field following the hounds, and the fencing of the hunters was above, the average, the horses having benefited by tho schooling obtained throughout the season.. Several horses finished up their qualifying for the steeplechases at Awapuni on Wednesday next, and, judging by the manner in which they all shaped, thero should,be some good contests.. At the conclusion, .of the hunt, afternoon tea was dispensed by the Misses. M'Ewcn, and, on the motion of Mr. D. Bennett,, hearty votes of thanks, were accorded the ladies and the owners of tho properties over which the run took The "drags, , * were laid by Messrs. B. M'Kenzio (Lucky Boy) and A. Farland (Toapango), and the following comprised tho field:—Messrs. B. M'Ewen (master) on Kingman, 1). Bennett (huntsman) .on Emmerdale, J. Crook on Bonny Jean, J. Connor or Mollio Millison,-P. Farland on Chestnut, W. Farland on Morning Sun, G. Lancaster on Crusade, J. Shaw on Merrylegs, D. Buick on Darky, J. L. , Buick on Volley, \V. Buick on Doctor, M. Heber on Himitangi, O. Gillies on CominodoTe, M. Kearins on Chance, H. Webby on Overheard, J. T. Jamieson on Waipunehu, J. Flanagan on Miss Eibero. Notwithstanding the threatening look of the weather, there was a good number of spectators who thoroughly enjoyed tho sport.
COMMITTEE MEETING. There was a large attendance at rbe meeting of tho Bunt Committee on Saturday ovening, the ladies especially being present in strong force. Mr. >S. K. Lancaster (president) occupied tho chair. Matters in connection with tlfo steeplechase meeting and ball on Wednesday next were'arranged, and, judging by tho large number of replies received from all over tho district, the ball promises to eclipse all previous similar functions held by tho club. There aro said to be at last twenty couples coming from Sandon,•■while Feildiug, Levin, and other parts will bo strongly represented. !It. A. Sclby', huntsman at Otahuhu, wrote stating that his son would bo sending this club a couple of hounds from (Jhristchurch. and Mr. Wynn Smith, master' of tho Cambridge Eunt Club, will be sending threo at tho end of tho season. Manawatu will therefore start next vear with a very strong pack. Satisfactorv arrangements have been made with Mr. 11. li. Lancaster to take caro of the* hounds during the off season. The following new members were elected —Messrs. V. Shannon (Feilding), S. H. Lod"C W. Gibson, and W. Aikhian (Kiwitea)," J. Flanagan (Palmerston), and J. G Doyle (Montoa). Msesrs. E. S. Abraham, D. Buick, jIV J- M'Dnnald, J. Goring Johnston, and'C. A. Loughnan wero appointed a judicial committco for the. steeplechase meeting.
