; • «——— • SEAMEN FIRE LAUNDRIES. By Telccraph-l'rtEs AEsociation-CoDjrlclil London, July 21. Twenty laundries at Cardiff have been wrecked. Rioting continued throughout the night. The police were powerless, owing to simultaneous movements of the moO in different parts. Soruo of. the rioters fired the laundries, looted the clothes, and robbed the tills. Five hundred or' the Lancashire Fusiliers have arrived. Others are in readiness. Tlib shipowners at Cardiff have recognised the Seamen's Union. THE STRIKE SETTLED. (Rcc. July 23, 5.5 p.m.) London, July 23. The seamen's strike at Cardiff has been settled, but tho seamen will not resume work until tho other workers' grievances have been remedied. During the rioting at Cardiff mobs stormed tho police stables, but were repelled by repeated baton charges by tho constables. There were numerous casualties. NO INCREASE IN CANADIAN RATES. (Kcc. July 23, 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, July 22. The Canadian steamship companies will not increase their passenger and freight rates as a result of the increased wages granted to the seamen on 6trike in England.
