ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FOUND DEAD IN A BATH. Tho City Coroner (Di. A. ll'Arthur, :?.M.) held an inquest at the Brooklyn Police Station yesterday, touching the death of Mrs. JJliza Johnson, who was found dead in a bath at her residence, Cleveland Street, Brooklyn about 7 o'clock yesterday morning. Deceased was a widow, Hi years of age, and was a. sister of Mr. Li. Frost, City Councillor. Constablo Pearco represented the police at the inquest. George Clarence Johnson, son of the deceased, stated that he had left home at 5 o'clock yesterday morning to follow his occupation of newsvendor. Beforo leaving he spoke to his mother, who was then awake, and quite well. On returning home at about 7 o'clock witness failed to find his mother in the house, and on going to tho wash-houso, and opening the door, ho caught sight of his mother stretched'out "in the bath. Witness ran to a neighbour and was sent on to tho doctor. Tho latter at onco left for tho house of deceased.
Robert George Hill, tailor's cutter, of Cleveland Strcet.Biooklyn, who was colled to the house of the deceased at 7 a.m. yesterday, stated that he had found de-' ceased partly dressed in tho bath, which wns '.partly filled 'with water. With'the assistance of'two other neighbours, witness: got deceased out of the water, and nppjiod first-aid,, but . without success. Later, the doctor arrived. Deceased, when found, was lying in a natural position as if asleep.
Dr.-A. E. Couzens, who was called to tho residence of deceased.yesterday morning, stated that, when he arrived there about twenty-live- minutes past 7 o'clock aud saw the body of deceased, respiration and pulse had both ceased. Witness considered death had occurred somewhere about a quarter of an hour previously. There was no evidence of water about the nostrils or mouth. Looking at tho evidence and the fact that the body was partly dressed, and tho presence o'f tho two towels (added to his own observation) witness attributed tho cause of death to heart failure.. ■ .-..-.•..
A verdict .was- returned in accordance with tho medical testimony.
DEATH IN A COAL-MINE.
