THE TURF.

—_ NOTES AND COMMENTS. RACING AT TRENTHAM TO-DAY. [Bγ Glekcoe.] Tho Wellington Racing Club's wintei meeting will Iμ concluded at Trenthaii to-day, and, if fine weather again favour: the chili, tho fixture will probably provi to be tho most successful that the clul has held at this season of tho year. Tin principal events on tho day's card an the July Steeples, two miles and a, half the Final Hurdles, one mile and three quarters, and the Winter Oats, one mile Tho presence of Corazon in the Steeple chase will lend added interest to tha event, while the meeting of The Rover North East, Waterworks; and Nappei in tho Final Hurdles should also . b< worth witnessing. Trains will leave th< city for the racecourse as follow: —Froir Tβ Aro at 10.29 a.m., and 10.55 n.iu From Lambton Station at' 10.46 a.m., 10.5! a.m., 11.5 a.m., and 1.5 p.m. F. Flynn will have the mount on Si) Letho in the July Steeples at Trenthan to-day, and J. Hercock will, as usual ride Corazon. H. Gray's mounts at Trentham to-da; will be Electrakoff, Sandy Paul, Ladj Fran, and Longstep. - Mr. Fred. Crossley, the well-known veterinary surgeon, journeyed to Trentham yesterday to have a look at Egypt and advised that the Fratsmito geldinj should be destroyed. It is now under stood that Egypt broke a small bone ir. his shoulder when ho fell in the hack hurdle race on Wednesday. Mr. Noako wired tho Eacing Club or Thursday to accept Koran for the Fina! Hurdles, but the telegram, though handed in early in the afternoon, did not reach the racing club office until twe hours after time. Not a few people would have liked to hav.o seen Koran making his first attempt over hurdles at Trentham, and it is disappointing news to learn that his acceptance missed by accident. A regular sporting night is promised ol the King's Theatre to-night, wheii Mr, H. Price s gold watches and Messrs Duncan and M'lntosh's gold-mounted whip; will be presented to tho leading jockeys for the season. In addition, the picture performance will include about 500 ft. o( film of Wednesday's racing at Trentham. This will cover the race for the Wellington Steeplechase, the finish of the Waterloo Handicap, and tho return to the birdcage after that event, and pictures of W. Young, leading horseman over jumps, and of A. Whittaker and H. Gray, who aro equal for supremacy on tho flat. The Manawahi Kacing Club has decided to allow the Mtiuawatu Trotting Club the use of the Awapuni course at a charge of .£25 per day, conditionally on the meeting taking place before September 1. The Native horseman "Eangi" Thompson, "who has ridden Hoanga in his successes this winter, rode El Dorado last season, and. would have still been associated with- Air. G. P. Donnelly's promising 'chaser had he not unfortunately gone amiss. H. Gray and A. Whittaker are at present level, with 77 wins each, for the jockey supremacy on tho flat. Should either win a race to-day, ho will secure the trophy presented by Mr. H. Price. The best record of C. Jenkins, who held a prominent position on tho list for many seasons, was 88 wins. . Were tho distance of the ■ Corunna Hurdle Race a mile and three-quarters, instead of a milo and a half, it would appear a gcod thing for Waterworks, who worked his way high up in the hack class at the summer- meetings when asked to carry 12?t. and over. For his win on Wednesday he has only been raised 01b., but the class which he meets to-clny is much better, than on Wednesday. He is asked to give weight to promising beginners in St. Bill, Taft, Merrie Time, and Gaelic. It would seem that the idea of sendiing! W;inuuera to Sydney has been aban-i .oped, , - a* ,the -Merritfet geldJngVisj* to.bo' al.ruWr'a't'Trentham to-day,-and' is' to' be sent home to Hastings on' Monday. In the Final Hurdles to-day, The Rover, promises to-sea a-very short price.. Should he win, he will still only carry 10st. 111b in the National Hurdles, anil it must be remembered that Paisano won the two open hurdle races at Trentham, and then went on and scored with 12st. lib. Nt Riecarton. Was Paisnno n better horse on the lint than Tho Rover? Tho writer does not think -so, and, moreover, is of opinion that tho best bns not >een seen of the Foxton horso at tho hurdling game. Moutoa Girl, who arrived from Foxton yesterday, will bo a fresh competitor in tiie Hack Race over the soven-furlon»v course to-day. She will bo ridden by C. Price, who was successful on her at Napier last month. Price will also have tho mount on The Rover in tho Final Hurdles. Apparently Electrakoff is not to bo sent to Riccarton, as his trainer has booked his return to New Plymouth by Monday s train. To Wiibaroa was railed home to New Plymouth yesterday. Tho St. Paul gelding seemed unablo to begin smartly in us races at Trentham, but on the tracks ho had done somo good gallops. Electrakoff has gone on the right way since his victory in the Parliamentary Handicap, and, yesterday morning, •ho galloped six furlongs on tho sand track n Imin. 18sec. This was two seconds aster- than tho next best of the morning, and should be enough to make tho public send the Menschikoff geldini* out favourite for the Winter Oats to-day. Paisano, Continuance, and Red M'Gregor were on the Mokoia, which went south last night. Tho trio are all fit and well. W. Stone, in charge of Appin, arrived tOm T Hastings yesterday, and went on to Lyttelton the fame evoniug. The .entury Hurdles' winner is reported by

his trainer to be as well as can bo desired. F. David anticipates leaving Napier for Sydney cany next month with Bobrikoff. llio black champion will probably bo accompanied by Cullinan and Beldame In tho matter of tho appeal of tho Egmont K-acing Club against a decision of tho iaranalci Metropolitan Committee which reversed a decision of the Egmont Racing Club in re the disqualification of Hobert Barlow, the following judgment has been given by Sir George Clifford and Messrs. P. Miller and T. W. Strinecr- - Hie judges, having.taken this matter into consideration, are satisfied that the case is governed by tho previous decision in Julian's case, a copy of which is forwarded to the Judicial Committee of the Egmont Racin? Club, which, in the opinion of the judges, was duly constituted The judges, therefore,. refer the matter back to the Judicial Committee, in order that they may ■ re-hear the case on the lines indicated in the judgment before referred to."
