WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. WINTER MEETING. THIRD'DAY'S ACCEPTANCES. The following are the acceptances for the third day's events at the Wellington Racing Club's Winter meeting:— ONSLOW HANDICAP. Of 110 sovs. Six furlongs.

NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Br Gi.excoe.] The Karamu stable has a particularly fine record in connection with the Trial Plate, decided at the W.R.C. Winter Meeting. Aittsdale, Morccambe, Dreadless, Mobility, and Wirral have all carried the cerise jacket first past the post in this event, while, in All Red's year, Wallasey ran second. In 1901, when racing on the old Hutt course, Ihe Hon. J. D: Ormond ran £ cond with The Stake, when his eldest son won with Mount. Kremlin, .who was apiongst,..the.runners at '■ Trent hain on -Wednesday, .won a, race on the Hutt course seven years ago. ■ ■

Regal, sire of Hoanga, the Wellington Steeplechase winner, got many useful performers; with but limited opportunities. Amongst them was Regulation, who won many good races both on tho flat 'and over fences, Tnhae, winner of the Winter Hurdles in 1901, Eogulus and Regalia. Taft, winner of the Thomdon Handicap on Wednesday, is rather appropriately named, being by Freedom. He also carried stars and stripes as his colours, Up till the present the winner of tho Junipers' Flat Race at Trcntham has not succeeded in winning the Grand National Hurdle?. Will The Native break the.spell this year? The black gelding is how .a good favourite for tho race. Somersault, Sir Geo. Clifford's New Zealand Cup candidate, acted as pacemaker in the Karori Handicap for half a mile. The full-brother to Shnia does not look ready, and should be all the better for his race. Worry and Gold Cord (sire and dam of The Native) both won a lot of races along the coast in the colours of the late. Mr. David Scott, of R&ngitikei. Worry was ah Australian-bred horse by TormentorEmotion, and Gold Covd was one. of Mr. Scott's Willow Bank breed by Gold ReefCornelia (darn of Alma and other performers). Hoanga.'s double win at Trcntham means a stone penalty at Eiccarton. This brings his impost up to list. 21b., which is still a stono below Antarctic. Hoanga is a great stayer and sure-footed. In his last four starts he has finished three firsts and a second. Kingswell has changed hands, and will in future bo an inmate of A. Shearsby's stablo at Awapuni. The same trainer is also receiving another addition to his string in the shape of a. rather usefullooking filly by Field Battery, one of W. Davies's breeding. Last year Paisano won both tho Winter Hurdles and the Final Hurdles at Trentham, and then went on and won the National with 12st. lib. in the saddle. The Rover has been given a great chanco to 1 repeat this performance, but so far he has by far the hardest part to do. However, he will only have to go to the post to be a very warm favourite for the Final Hurdles on Saturday. In this connection it may he mentioned that a victory on Saturday would not entail any further penalties for the big Riccarton event, while, on the other hand, the race would probably do the Advance gelding a lot of good, as a schooling in public is always held by the cognoscenti to be worth a ton of private trials.

The steeplechaser Red M'Gregor is on board the steamer Mokoia, which is due here from Auckland this morning. He is on his way to the Grand National meeting at Riccarton in charge of A. H. Windsor. Le Beau will probably leave Auckland by steamer to-morrow en route to Kiccarton, for the Grand National. Between 2.15 p.m. and <t p.m. on Saturday, July 8, the Victorian cross-coun-try horseman, I'. Burn, rode only a furlong less than !H miles on four different horses at Flemingtoii, in the course of which he jumped 38 fences and 18 hurdles. In addition to steering Grafnax into third place in the Grand National Steeplechase, Burn finished second on The Reckoning and Lyrist in the DouttaGafln Hurdle Race and Footscray Steeplechase respectively, whilst in the Trial Handicap Hurdle Race he was beaten out of a place on Fleet Maid. Pistol, tho sire of Arquebus?, has done well at the stud in Australia with comparatively limited opportunities (says the "Arrow"). In his first season his progeny won 11J races, valued at 1405 sovs.; next year he was eighteenth on the list of winning stallions, with IS winners of 28 races, worth HTtIG sovs.; last season he was tenth, with 17 winners of .1:! races, worth •1950 sovs.; and his totals this year will be much better. Amonest* other representatives of New South Wales nominated for the "Height Class Thousand." of 1000 sovs., to be run on one of the Melbourne unregistered courses on September 7 next, is Lady A lonia. This filly, who has already performed without success at meetings of the Associated Pacing Clubs in Sydney, is by St. Alwynne (imp.) from Diploma, and therefore fully related lo Lady Medallist, and Moorilla. winner of the Sydney Cup.
