A statement Ims been mnilo that it is understood that the Opera House Company in tends to crcct n new theatre. This is hardly correct—as yet. Mr. W. C. Gascoigne, chairman of directors, states that certain improvements arc necessary to bring the Opera House in Manners Street up-to-date, moro particularly] "behind the. scenes." The company is seeking the advice of the lion. Win. Pitt, of Melbourne, an expert in tho-architecture of theatres, to sco if theso improvements can be made. If not, it is probable that another theatre will be erected on a suitable site not far from the Opera House, in which case.tho Opera House may later on be.converted into a building for ether purines altogether.
