PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
HON D. BUDDO'S VISIT. (From Our Ssecial Correspondent.) Palmorston, July Ift. The Hon. D. Buddo arrived here this afternoon for the purpose of attending the annual dinner of tho I'almerston Fire Brigade. There' was a large attendance and a number of speeches were made. The opportunity was taken of the Minister's presence this afternoon to bring under his notice t'ho desirability of securing a portion of the public reserves in the eastern portion of t.he town for a recreation ground. A representative deputation waited on Mr. Buddo and he i promised to assist the residents in their desire.
The local Liedertafol attended at tho Hospital last night and gave a very enjoyable concert which was greatly appreciated by tho patients and staff. Tho Holiday Association decided to-day to close business premises at noon oil Wednesday next on the occasion of tho Manawatu Hunt Club's steeplechase meeting.
At the annual meeting of the Licensed Victuallers' Association tho following officers were elected President, Mr. W. Devine; vice-president, Mr. J. Pawsonj treasurer, Mr. .T. Bel!; .secretary,. Mr. D. MTherson; auditor, Mr. C. Louissonr executors, Messrs. Childs, Hurley, M'Kwen, Pasley, Kogeii, Dumblcton, Dixon, Trevor, ami Gran, Votc3 of thanks were accorded (lie retiring officers. Matters in connection with the appro,telling licensing poll were discussed, and several recommendations woro made.
