THE GAME OF BOWLS.
CONFERENCE OF CONTROLLING BODIES. .. Tho council of the Northern Bowling Association met last evening, Mr. J. G. Keith presiding. Tho Takaka Club was granted affiliation. A letter was received from the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association, stating that it was the desire of members to undertake a tour of tho North Island during the coming season. It was resolved' that the visitors should be accorded a hearty welcome, but that tho Northern Association should be requested to make its arrangements in connection with tho tour through the various clubs. Correspondence from the New Zealand Bowling Association relativo .to the proposals for tho amalgamation of tho three existing controlling authorities—the New Zealand Bowling Association (which 1 is the South Island body), the Northern Bowling Association, and tho Auckland Provincial Bowling Association—was read. The New Zealand Bowling Association intimated that delegates had befcn appointed to represent that body at a conference which it was suggested should bo held
at Christchurch to further the scheme of amalgamation. Alter discussion it was agreed that Messrs. M. Casey (Auckland), .1. G. Keith, and T. Bush should represent the association at (ho proposed conference, additional representatives to be appointed should occasion require it.
ATHLETICS. WELLINGTON CENTRE. Ai a mooting of the Wellington Centro of Hip New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, Mr. M'Villy in the chair, a letter was received from the Auckland Centre notifying that Otago had definitely stated that that centre would lie ropre"-. seated at the cross-country championship meeting to he held at Auckland 011 August 12. The Olago Centre forwarded a copy of a resolution passed at its meeting that the time was now opportune for New Zealand to have separate representation at the Olympic sanies. While approving of the principle, the Wellington Centro considered the proposal impracticable from a financial point of view. -Messrs. Bevan, Lamberg, and W. 11. Pollock were appointed to select a Wellington team for the cross-country championship at Auckland. It was decided to hold a test race on Saturday, July 29. BOXING. JOHNSON-WELLS .FIGHT. Smith (of Warwickshire) have been invited to join the team for Australia.
