Captain Smith, master of one of the Dutch pearlers recently arrested by the gunboat Gayundah, and accused of offences under the Customs law, has been convicted on all charges. Ho was fined i£'o for smuggling, .£IOO for entering a placo not a port., without reporting, without reasonable cause, 4:5 for using his vessel for smuggling, £2 10s. for using ship's stores before entering them for home consumption, and <£5 for interfering with goods subject to control of tho Customs.

Tho captain of another vessel was fined minimum penalties totalling ,£l2 10s.
