Tho funeral of tho little girl, Beryl Gardner, who was the victim of a very sad tragedy at Masterton in February last, look place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday afternoon. At the Producers' Conference held yesterday, Mr. W. D. Lysnar, referring to the question as to whether mutton could deteriorate in cold store, stated that some mutton he had placed in cold storage on November 24 last was taken out quite recently, and tested. Thero was no appreciable defect noticeable, tho meat being of the best quality. Personally ho did not think it possible for meat, .when properly frozen, to deteriorate. Reporting to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, the Charitablo Aid Committee gave the following statistics as from May 30 to June 27;— Outdoor relief: Number of cases assisted, 83; new cares, 20; cases terminated, 13; total number of persons afi'ceted (adults 98,. children IG5}, 263; married persons, 14; widows, 23; single persons, lfi; total daily rations issued, 4727; cash grants in aid of rent, ,C-U lis. 2d. indoor relief: Admissions, 14; discharges, 10; number in home, 124. Total persons assisted: Indor, 134; outdoor, 263; total, 397. „ W- S- Bedford writes as follows:— "Sit',—Kindly allow me to express my regret for having referred to Sir Joseph Ward, Baronet, as 'Joey Ward.' Musical people in Wellington will be interested to learn that Messrs. Wcekes ami Co., of London, have acceptj.il for publication a full choral Communion service, written by Mi Lawrence Watkins, organist at St. Mark's, where the service was performed for the iirst time on Easter Sunday last. It is understood that this is the first service of tho kind written in New Zealand and published in London.
During tho week ended Julv IG, workers' tickets to the number of 10,421 wore sold on the Wellington- tramways. This is equivalent to a concession of J:9G 15s. 7d.
