Carterton, July 16. Tho Rugby senior championship concluded on Saturday. Carterton were defeated by Gladstono by 3 points to nil. S. Mason kicked a goal from a mark. Both sides were represented by weak teams. H. M'Kenzie twice missed penalty goals by inches. The Gladstone forwards won the game, conspicuous among them being Preshaw, N. Johnson, Hodge, and Thomson, E. Mason and Brown were tho best backs. N. M'Kenzie and F. Groube (backs) a> and Barry, Bond,. Desmond, and H. M'Kenzie (forwards) were prominent for Carterton. The result has no etrect on the championship, which has been won by Carterton, except that Gladstono are now runnors-up. Red Star are third, and Masterton fourth. During the last cloven years Carterton has won the championship seven times. At Masterton Red Star beat Masterton by 20 points to .nil.
Juniors: Carterton (5) were beaten by Greytovm (12); Red Star (0) were defeated by Daleliehl (11); Liberal (52) romped over Masterton (0). Third-class: Daleliehl (5) wore defeated by Rod Star (15); Masterton (0) succumbed to Liberal (3). Tho following are the teams for representative trials North v. South Wnirnrapa:—North: Backs—Flaws, B. Chamberlain, K. Welch, Johns, Hanley, Osborne; forwards— F. Welch, A. Ross, Nowland, King, Miller, Wilkinson, M'Lachlan, Spackman, Al'Lnchlan. Emergencies: Backs— N. Chamberlain, Vallance, and Yates; forwards—Grant and Clark. South: Backs—Masson, Thompson, C. Sroube, E. Mason, N. M'Kenzie, Tori, F. Sroubo; forwards—Preshaw, Barry, N. fohnson. H. M'Kenzie, Bond, Hodge, Desnond, Brough. Emergencies: Backs—C. August and Brown; forwards—Henderson B.nd Blake. A match is to bo played at Masterton next Saturday, and a return match at Carterton on the following Saturday, after which the team to meet tho Maori team will be chosen. Wanganur, July 15. In the Senior Cup matches, Wanganui defeated Old Boys by 15 points to 3. Pirates won by default. In tho Eastern Junior Cup contests, Pirates easily beat Matariki. The senior matches in Rugby football were played yesterday in capital weather with the following results:—University (6) beat Kaikorai (0); Zingari-Kichmoml (10) beat Southern (5); Allmmbra (9) and Pirates (!l) played a draw; Union (8) boat Taiori liovers (C); Port Chalmers (■<) beat Dunedin (3).
