PROSPECTS AND PRESENT 'CONDITIONS. Discussing tho wheat prospects a Canterbury paper says that owing to the continued wet a:nd hosty weather during tho / past sis weeks the soil has remained in a sloppy and moist condition, which lias caused a serious delay in tho sowing of cereals. In ma-iy instances in which 'larmers have', intended to sow winter wheat tho unfavourable condition of the soil, has compelled them to put in spring varieties, which aie not altogether suitable for some classes of land. Farm operations aro practically at a standstill in the Dunsandel district, as the land is in a very wet stato after the recent rains. Lsually July is a mouth in jvnich not much work can be done 011 tho land, and this year, so far/little or no farm has been doue. Jlnst farmers nrc fortunate m having all their winter wheat sown and a good dear of their Ground ploughed for the spring crop, and with anything like fair weather in Au»list; they will bo in a forward state A larger area of whent~ : is being sown this"' year, and tho same can>bo said about oats and barley. Ine high price ruling for' oats and oaten-sheaf, chaff h'as caused farmers to turn their attention in this direction.
