A meeting of the Wellington nockey Association was held on Thursday evening, for the purpose of amending the rules of°'tlie association, in order to admit a new club. Mr. W. J. Organ presided, and the resolution was put and carried. Tho Kilbirnio Young lien's Institute Club was thereby affiliated to the association. Sonic discussion arose over complaints made bv junior and third-class players in reference to the postponement of llieir matches when shield events arc played. The following" resolution was carried on the casting voio of the chairman:—"That thero lie no postponement on account of the llawke's Bay match, but that thero eiioultl be a postponement on the occasion of tho Auckland Sh'ield match." *
Mr. lieunett, in giving notice of motion 1 to call another meeting to consider tho matter, stated that, in the interest of hockey, the junior and third-class players would Icarn morn by watching the shield matches Hum by playing themselves. If Wellington is successful in retaining the shield against llauke's Hay, Auckland jviil ulav Wellington on August 12.
Wairarapa havo extended an invitation for n Wellington 15 team antl a junior representative! team to visit thera this season.
The Otago Association havo written asking for a date for the match with them. The Wellington Association can give 110 definite date till after tho Ilawke's Hay and Auckland matches.
As tho local association do not entertain visiting teams, a committee has been formed (Messrs. C. Ilickson, Dwyer, Organ, G. Davios, Morpeth, and U. Smytlie.) who will unofficially entertain the Hawke's Bay representatives after (he shield match.
Tho three oldest hockey chilis in Wellington (Karori, United, and Wellington) are holding a euchro party at Mawsou'.s Rooms on Thursday evening next, and (he. Hawko's Bay team are to be invited to be present.

Great surpriso has been caused by the publication in the "Daily Chronicle" of a Sydney cablegram, stating that a fight has been arranged between Johnson and Langford at tho Sydney Sports Ground on December 2G next, tho State Government generally supervising the arrangements and receiving 10 per cent, of the takings. Johnson denies that ho has been approached, in regard to a fight with Langtord. He declares that he ivill not fight Langford without a bet of 10,000 dollars and substantial purse. Johnson is arranging to visit Australia at the conclusion of his English engagement. THE NELSON ASSOCIATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Nelson, July 14. The Nelson Amateur Boxing Association's annual tournament was held this evening, and was largely atended. The chief attractions wero four special sixi'ound bouts between representatives of the Nelson and Wstport Associations, and they resulted as follow:— Feather-weights—G. Henry (Nelson) defeated T. O'Neill (Westport). Light-weights.—Harris (Nelson) defeated J. Calnon (Westport). Light-weight Special.—Hunter (Nelson) defeated Senior (Westport). In tho bantam-weight class, J. O'Neill (Westport), who conceded C. Simmonds (Nelson). Ist. 51b., lost the decision in the Second round through accidentally hitting his opponent low. Cheers for the loser showed tho sympathy of the audience. In the open amateur competition, Ifar-. greaves (Nelson) defeated Stanley (Riwaka) in the light-weight division. In the open feather-weight competition, Fisher (Nelson) defeated J. O'Neill (Westport). The display was clean and interesting.
, GOLF. The ladies of the Ilntt Golf Club held a foursome competition on ■ Wednesday for trophiss jirosontcd by Mrs. Hayward. Ten couples took part, but, owing; to the adverse weather conditions, few good cards were returned. The best were those of Mrs. J. Rose and Miss Rathbone, 2 down, and Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Wilson, 5 down, and Miss Callender and Mrs, Coy. crdale.a down.
