MURITAI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

■ SUNDAY AT THE SEASIDE. Tlio annual meeting of tlio MuritaV' Presbyterian Church, Eastbourne, was held on Thursday evening, tho Moderator, the Rev. A. Thompson, presiding. The annual report stated that tho Presbytery did not approve of a proposal made by the Pctone Methodist Circuit to co-opcratc in church work by supplying a' servico at least once a Sunday. Tho Eev. Mr. Pinlayson, had been appointed to ' the charge in tlio hope that he would lie able to devote tlio whole of his time to the work, and live in Jhe disti-ict. Tho ' ivork, in general, had been fairly eucouraging. The choir hart been a great help to the services, and mention is. made of' the good work of the organist, Mr. Philip l'almer. Though 110 special effort had been made for funds, tlio financial side of tho work showed n small credit balance. The building loan stood at .£'2os, and should bo reduced each year. Tlio report and balaucc-sliect were adopted. "It is encouraging to find," says the re- ; ' port, "that at a seaside. watering place the opportunity of attending divine worship is much appreciated by visitors, though some of tlio permanent, residents complain of being kept at home by the presence ot town friends, who return by the late boat on Sunday evenings. . . . There is a growing tendency amongst the voung people to look upon Sunday at the hay e.s a gala day, and the wcek-cndera certainly give tho place this appearance and establish an example and tone of indifference which must in time have a decidedly lowering effect. We do not take exception to ail taking advantago 1 of the facilities for exorcise, bathing, and fresh air recreation, but it must bo admitted that the utter disregard for, and liouattendanco at, church at least once a Sunday can yield nothing but disappointment and discontent eventually. Tho following were elected a uianago- ■ 111 ont committee:—Messrs. Simpson, Wilson, C. Drummond, Wise, Hobos, Cooper, and Sinclair. A ladies' committee was elcc.tcd also, its personnel being:—Mesdamcs Bannatyue, Cooper, Wise, bnd Day, and Misses Davidson and M. Harris. . The choir and Mrs. Day and Mr. Wise contributed musical items.
