He admitted going to the woman's house and asking for board, and lie admitted committing adultery with her. The Magistrate: So that is what you, a respectable private detective, did. Witness: l'es. Mr. l Luntlon: I'ou are a married man?— Yes. Have you any children?— No. Mr. Limrlon: Thank God for that. Alice ICehoe denied that she_ had misconducted herself with M'Nab. His statements were untrue. She suspected that M'Nab was a private detective and told him so. • • Defendant' then went into the box and offered to pay 15s. a week towards the maintenance of his wife and children. Mr. Kettle said the case would be adjourned for a time. The circumstances were extraordinary, and it was difficult to know whom to believe. "I won't express my opinion of M'Nab," continued. Mr. Kettle. "If I did I might' find it difficult to find words to express myself, even assuming that his statements were true." "All the greater blackguard if they are," remarked Mr. Lundon.
