NEW AWARD SOUGHT. DEMAND'-Km INCREASED WAGES. A new award is sought by the ■Wellington Operative Bakers' Union. Sittings of tho Conciliation Council to consider the ease will be licld at Napier, on July 20; Wanganui, July 21; J'alinerstoii North, July 27; Jlasterton, August 2; Wellington, August 9. Messrs. Jl. Answorth, T. M. Goodchild and Andrew Collins are recommended ■ assessors for the union. The men ast . or increases in wages and reductions n hours. Wages now paid to operutiv bakers in the Wellington district r? go from A3 as. to .£-! a week. Wages i-e now demanded ranging from .(.'3 ss. I- .£3 10s. Polio- ing are tiio demands of the union Hours of Labour. Eight and a half hours shall;constitute a day's work on five days a week; five and a half hours to bo observed oil the usual weekly half-holiday. Timo - for sponging and doughing to be deducted from the day's work, not less than one hour to be allowed for same. Each day to stand by itself as regards overtime. No workman shall work longer than four and a-half hours without a meal, and that half an hour to be allowed for same. Jobbers. Jobbers shall be paid at the rate ol 12s. per day. No jobber to be employee: -for less than four hours at the rate ol Is. Cd. per hour. Overtime same as journeymen. That no labourers be employee in the bakehouse. Substituted Holidays. . Any work dono on any-of the following holidays shall bo paid for at tin rate of 3s. per hour in addition to tin usual weekly wages-.—New Year's Day Anniversary Day, Good i'riday, Easte] Monday, Princo of Wales's Birthday Labour Dav, Sovereign's Birthday, Christ mas Dav, Boxing Day, Bakers' Picnic and January 2. The employers in any citj or town may agree with the union to substitute any other day or days for all oi any of the holidays hereinbefore men tioned.
