FOREIGN MISSIONS.

A METHODIST CENTENARY. Tho first meeting of the General Committee appointed to arrange for the centenary of. the 'Foreign Missionary Society, iu 1913 was held at the Mission House, London, on May 30, Mr. T. 1?. Ferens, M.F., presiding. The whole day was given to the discussion of the plan of campaign. Representatives were, present from all the districts and from Ireland. Tho Rev. William Goiidio gave an exposition of the main lines of the centenary scheme..;■:Thornini,-.lie saidv nwas. to bring home to all couccrned the necessity of permeating all teaching aud preaching with the missionary spirit, and of informing the people on missionary subjects. Tho Mission House would rely largely on' the district committees, _ and these would have to stimulate the circuit committees, which-were often ineffective. The president-elect is to bold centenary contentions in the more .important districts, aud at the end Of the effortthanksgiving services will bo arranged in tho large centres, to bo attended by Methodist delegates from all parts of the world. The foreign districts, Mr. Goudie. declared, were entering heartily into tho celebration scheme; all will mako.extended efforts towards self-support aud evangelisation, whilst one eastern district intended to raise a large thanksgiving fund, and another proposed to secure an amount equal to a month's iucome of all its members. In laying the financial side of the movement before the meeting, the Rev. Marshall Hartley explained that, no definite sum for tho Centenary Fund could be named yet. Carefnl inquiries were being made on the foreign field, aud the amount aimed at would be commensurate with tho reasonable claim' of the work.
