$. . EX-AUSTRALIAN PREMIER. By Tcl«irraDh—Frcse Association—Copyrlcbt, (Rcc. July li, 0.20 a.m.) Molbourne, July 13. The Hon. Allan M'Lean lias, died after a long illness. lie was formerly Premier of Victoria, and Inter joint Prime Minister of the Commonwealth with Sir George Reid. The late Mr. Allan M'Lean was bora in Gippslnnd in 1810. He entered the stock and station ogeucy business, and became senior partner in the firm of A. M'Lenn nnil Company, of Melbourne. Ho sat in the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Gippsland North from 18S0 until in 1001 he was elected to the Federal Parliament. After holding various portfolios from 1800 onwards, lie became Premier of Victoria bora December, 1899, to November, 1000. In the Federal Parliament ho was joint Prime Minister and Minister for lrado and Customs in the Reid Ministry, which held office from August, 1901, to July, 1005, MR. HAROLD STRANGE, London, July 12. The- death is reported of Mr. Harold Strange,' who was the principal witness in tho Woolf Joel murder case, and a member of tho Jameson Reform Committee of 1835.
