His Honour Mr. .Justice Chapman returned from Napier on Wednesday evening.
Cabled news has been received of the death at Washington, U.S.A., of Mr. Clifford Bramah. of Wellington, who was on a tour abroad. Mr. Uramah was in business here for some years, during which time he look an active interest in Kennel Club matter?. He was one of the founders of the New Zealand Fox Terrier Club, and was on tho executive of the Wellington Kennel Club and the New Zealand Kennel Club. The deceased, who was sixty-nine years of age, leaves a widow and one Nil.
News has been received from Sydney of the death there of Mr. John Artuiir, formerly manager of (he New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company s branch here, ami prior to that accountant in the Duncdin branch.
An application for a further fortnights leave of absence to tho Mayor (Mr. J. M Wilford), who is at present, indisposed, was granted at last night's meeting; ottlio City Council. Mr. Wilford wrote staling that ho had been up on Wednesday, and hoped to be in harness again shortly, to fight the proposed tramway regulations. Several councillors remarked on the strenuous efforts of the Mayor to prevent the regulations coming in during last session.

Tt is slated, on good authority, that Mr. H. D. Bedford. ex-M.P., will" in nil likelihood contest the. DuneJin Central seat, as an Independent, at the forthcoming general election. The present member for Dunedin Central is the lion. J. A. Millar.
