DANGER ON THE HUTT ROAD.

THE CYCLE WAY. The following letter was forwarded lo the Hon. J. A. .Millar by Mr. J. I'. Luke, M.P., yesterday:— "Dear Sir,—ln constructing the new Hntt Road you will remember n portion throughout its length is tot up as a path and cycle way, the two being in common without a dividing curb. I desire to draw your attention to the practice of motor cyclists using tho foot and eyclo way to the great danger of pedestrians. Already there have been several narrow escapes from serious accidents, and 1 feel sure It steps aro not taken to prevent motorists using the-track, life and limb will be imperilled. 1 would urge you to instruct your officers to have notice boards erected along the road warning motorists not to use the foot and cyclc way." WALL COLLAPSES.

ONE MAN KILLED AND TWO INJURED. (Bj Telegraph—Press Association.! Christchurch, July 12. At about nine o'clock this morning four men, under the control of a foreman, wero engaged by Mr. W. D. Scott for tho demolition of an old brick wall, ten feet high and nine inches thick, at the back of Smith's motor garage, between Worcester and Gloucester Streets. Tho wall fell suddenly, tho debris striking tho men and partially covering them. Tho foreman (J. Phillips) had a remarkably narrow escape, loGse bricks striking his legs, but not with sufficient force to cause injury. George Blue, a single man about 30 years of age, who resides at 3G Kingsley Street, Sydenham, was unconscious when extricated from the debris, and died before reaching tho hospital. John James Currie, a married man residing at 2G Lees Street, Richmond, aged 31 years, was found lo have received terrible injuries to his leg. He was conveyed to the hospital, where it was found that immediate amputation was necessary. Charles Littlecot, a married man aged 51 years, residing at 218 Aberdeen Road, Sydenham, was also removed lo the hospital. His injuries are reported to, lx> less serious than those sustained by Currie.
