SCENE IN FRENCH CHAMBER.
VIOLENT DISORDER. REINSTATEMENT OF DISMISSED . RAILWAY MEN. PREMIERS AND SOCIALISTS. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyrlent (Rcc. July 12, 0.20 a.m.) Paris, July 11. Violent scenes occurred in the Chamber of Deputies yesterday en the Socialists pressing their motion for the reinstatement of the railway men who were dismissed after the great strike last year. The State employees who took part in the railway strike were reinstated by the Government with the exception of those who were convicted of sabotage (wanton destruction), and those persisting in an insubordinate and anarchical attitude. The Government urged the railway companies to follow the example of the State in this matter in the interest of social pacification. The companies, however, refused to reinstate the men who had struck while in their employ, many members of various railway boards declaring they would resign rather than agree to the reinstatement. The Prime Minister, 31. Caillaus, in replying yesterday to the Socialist speakers, promised to approach the companies, but refused to attempt to coerce them. He added that though ho agreed with the Socialists on the need for democratic reforms, he had never agreed with I them with regard to the encouragement of demagogy ami disorder. A tumult followed this statement. M. Jaures, the Socialist leader, hurled vituperativo epithets at the deputies of the Extreme Left and the Left , . The deputies shouted at each other and were with difficulty prevented from coming to blows. Tho sitting had ultimately to be suspended. Later in the day, on tho Chamber resuming, a voto of confidence in the Government was carried by 433 to 86 votes. The late Premier, 51. Mnnis, during his tenure of ofiice, urged the railway companies to reinstate their employees on the same terms as .tho State, but without avail. Then, ho declared that "measures would have to be taken to influence the companies." Tho Government, lie said, did not possess any weapon of compulsion, but if their efforts continued to be unavailing they would ask the Chamber of Deputies to givo them the necessary power to deal with the companies The , Chamber of Deputies expressed its confidence in the Government in regard to the matter
