NOW SUBSIDING. (By Tdesrapu.—Special CorrespondinU Palmerston, July 11. The flood in the Manawatu River reached its greatest height during tho small hours of this morning, since when it has , rapidly subsided. In several places it overflowed the banks, and, at Stoney Cresk, a few mjles out of Palmerston, tho Main ltoad was impeded for same hours, there being a great depth on the top parts of the road. At tho southernmost position of the borough, at the old racecourse, a good deal of erosion took place, it .being estimated that quite an acre and a half of the borough reservo there was washed away during the night. Otherwise little damage hits been recorded. , On the northern side of the borough, the Mangaono Stream overflowed its banks last night, and a number, of residents in the vicinity were put to great inconvenience for a few hours through their premises being flooded. Both the \wahuri and Bunnythorpe Roads, between Palmerston and Feilding, were inundated in many places, but very little damage was done. At the Fitzhcrhert Bridge, the flood waters were nearly us high as at tho big flood three years ago, but the country inundated is net nearly so great, tho waters appearing to get away much quicker.
