KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL

TRAMWAY MATTERS. A meeting of the Karori Borough Council wns held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. C.Cathie) presiding. There were also present: Councillors Hamilton, I'rosl, Horn, Bradnock, Burn, Nimmo, Hildreth, and ijtanden. Councillor Hamilton suggested that application be made to tho City Council tor duplicates of the weigh bills kept by tho tramway conductors. These, ho said, would enable the co.uncil to see just where the shoo pinched, for undoubtedly it did pinch, and the bills would be valuable wlien they had to reconsider the running of the ears. Tho Mayor said ho was still in negotiation with the City Tramway Department as to ths running of extra , cars on Saturday nights and the authorities appeared ro be sympathetic to the suggestion. He also believed there was a. chance of getting an extra time-table in the slack hours of tho dny. A recommendation was tabled by the Public Works Committee that a tearoom be erected on the park at a , cost not exceeding .£2OO. TUe <:ommittee suggested that -plans for the building be prepared by the Horough Engineer. Tho matter was considered in committee. The engineer, in his fortnightly report, stated that maintenance work had been carried out on Johnston, Donald, Chisenhall, . Wallace, and - M'Donald StTects, and on tho Old Karori Road. In company with the City Engineer he had visited South Karori In reference to shifting six- lamps near tl»s .borough boundary. They had also gone into the question of the duplication of the lights on the Main Road and tho replacing of the old carbon arc lamps with Osram lamps along the old tramline.
