In connection with the line imposed on the licensee of Hie Hotel Cecil (a report of whioh appears in another column), .Mr. .1. .1. .M'Grain, solicitor for defendant, informed it Dominion' representative last uiffht that, notice of appeal had already been served, and that the appeal would bo preceeded with at once.
The ease of \V. 1\ Massey v. the "Nov Zealand Times" was mentioned in the Court of Appeal yesterday morning, when it was tentatively set down lor today. Proceedings in this case commenced with a chum of £'Mb for damages by
the Leader of the Opposition in respect of a libel alleged to be contained in a cartoon which appeared in the "Now Zealand Times" last December. The verdict was for the defendant. Plaintiff applied for a new trial on several grounds, tho principal one being that the verdict was against the weight of evidence. Tho application was heard by tho Chief Justice and Mr. Justice Chapman, and dismissed. Against that decision plaintiff now appeals.
A Boys' Rescue Home will, before long, be established in or near Wellington by the diocesan authorities. Preliminary steps are being taken by a strong committee, of which the Von. Archdeacon Harper is chairman, and a report was made to
an informal meeting of tho Diocesan Synod yesterday. It was reported that although no funds had vet. been asked for, nearly .CIQO had already beiyi given. The first board of directors will bo elected at a meeting to be called within the next
;'ew weeks. i The case of the New Zealand Educational Institute "v. the Solicitor-General is set down to be heard by the Court of Appeal to-day.
Judgment in the case of the Public Trustee v. Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board will be delivered by Mr. Justice Sim at 10 o'clock this morning. As has already been intimated, Parliament will assemble on Thursday, July 27. On the following day an Imprest Supply Bill will be put through, as the appropriations will only carry the finances on to the last day of the month. The
Addi-ess-in-Reply debate will commence on Tuesday, August 1. The most' important business of (lie session (including, it is understood, the Classification scheme which the committee sot up for the purpose has been considering) will be held over till the Prime Minister's return.
