Cundy being in the chair. i The annual statement of rovenuo and expenditure showed the debit balanco of : the working account as at July 31 to be Ji7l2 2s. lid.,' as against ,£lOlO 18s. lOd. at, the same' date last year. The principal ' items of revenue were:—Entry and acceptance fees, £%2; totalisator commission, XIIIC Gs. Gd.; gates, .£931 Is.; catering, ,£331 10?. 6d.; privileges sold, =£261 Us. On tho expenditure side:— stakes were ,'|!}2lo; salaries and wages, «eil4G 10s.; sfiinp. dutj, JE7S2 13s. 6d.; building and improvement, X 257 2s. Id.; printing and advertising, ,£250 os. kl. It was decided that no action be taken in connection with the Thames Jockey Club's proposal to hold a meeting for tho purpose of asking for an alteration in the constitution of the Racing Conference. • . OTAKI. . Mr. J. Southey Fowler, for some time resident in this district, during vrhich time he was prominent in football circles, has been appointed Mr: E. Short's private secretary, and in future "will reside near Feilding. An engine capable of providing all the required electrie'light at tho hospital and sanatorium has been installed, and will also bo used for tho. pumping of' water, heating, etc': The old engine will be'kept in case'of emergency. Jlr. M. O'Keilly, once "mine'host". of the Jubilee Hotel, leaves shortly for England. Mrs.'O'Reilly goes also. - The monthly sitting of the S.M. Court was held yesterday, and was very short. The year's trophies were presented at the Manchester' Rifles' Annual "social" on Thursday'night. Captain Barltrop,.V:P., was again tho -winner-'of- the first-class belt, and-Sergeant Jones received a handsome barometer as .'rnnner-up. Private Mansell took the belt and gold m'edal'for second-class.shots, Private A. D.'Belk receiving a trophy' as a second prize.' Tho Waituna Young Ladies' Hockey Club: is iiow in full swing, and some good practices are' being held. The No-License Council held their meeting on Wednesday. There wero. representatives from all parts of the district. Mr. E.'Harding was elected president and Mr. 'H. Pease was appointed organising secretary. . . ••• The committee of the Coronation festivities have held their final meeting, and found that there was a surplus in hand after paying all accounts. This amount is to bo refunded to tho council, with tho suggestion that it bo spent on extra seats for .Fountain Square. A very good programme ; was given at tho recent Band of Hope meeting, ' and tho attendance was also good. An outlino of the work dono at the recent conference, held at Wellington, was given by Mr. E. Harding. A movement is on foot for tho amalgamation of local church choirs for tho production of some of the larger musical works which the choirs, separately, cannot undertake. Their.first practice will be held next week. Inspector.Smith is at present examining the . children of the Woodville Higi School. A very old identity of this locality, passed away at Napier several-days ago— Mr. J. Greenaway. Mr. Greenaway was one of tho original settlers of the Masterton Eoad Block. GREYTOWN.
