. 4 . AN INDIAN GRIEVANCE. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyrieht Cape Town, July 6. A decision of the Court prohibits an Indian from bringing mora than one wife to tho Transvaal. The Indian community is protesting against this ruling, on tho ground that polygamy is a recognised institution, ir India. A DIFFICULT ASIATIC QUESTION. General Botha, Prima Minister of South I Africa, stated in May tho settlement which had been arrived at in tho mat- ' ter of tho Transvaal Asiatics is ou tho lines of tho correspondence between tho Imperial and Union Governments, and that tho passive resistance movement has been abandoned. Tho Union Government has made the following further concessions ..to .the Indians:— (l)"Th'e Asiatics now in South Africa wbo did not apply to be registered in consequence of tho passive resistance movement will bo permitted to mako application within six months. (2) Tho thirty Asiatics now in Tndi.i who wero deported under the Acts of 1907 and 190S, or who left in consequence of tho passive resistance movement, and who otherwise.would bo entitled to registration, may return aud apply in six months. (3) Six educated Indians will bo admitted annually free from registration. For the present year ten Indians now in tlie Transvaal may remain under temporary permits as special cases pending fresh legislation. (4) Well-educated and well-known .
