The carters at Manchester ask for a- . fifty-four-hour week, official recognition of tho union, and wages of 275. a week for drivers of ono-horse and 295. for twohorse vehicles, being increases of 2s. The Northumberland miners havo largely voted for a strike to sccuro tho abolition of tho three-shift system. It is doubtful whether tho British Federation will sanction, a national strike.
