SHOCKING CRUELTY TO A HORSE.
SEVEN DAYS' IMPRISONMENT. (By Telegraph-Frcse Associitlon.l Auckland, July 7. A shocking case of cruelty to a horse was disclosed at the Polico Court to-day, when a hawker named Harry Comptou had to answer (ho charge of having worked a horso while it was suffering from a sore back. Inspector Aldor, of th© Society for (ho Prevention, of Cruelty to Animals, saw Comptou with his horse and cart at tho oity market this morning, and, noticing blood oozing out from under tho saddlo on the horse, inspected it. Just under the saddlo was a holo of festering flesh, largo enough for a man's closed hand to lie in. After viewing tho animal, Sir. Cutten, S.M., said that for such an inhuman offcuco defendant would have to suffer. He would bo sent to prison for seven days.
