BILLIARDS.
Frank Smith, junr., has challenged "Tom" Reeco to a match, at snooker for tho championship of Australia. Recce has accepted the challenge, and the match will bo played at tho hall of "Billiards, Ltd.," Sydney, beginning on Thursday next. Smith is reported to bo an extraordinary fine snooker player, and it is understood that a sido-wager of .£SO to ,£4O has been laid on him. The match will extend over 21 games, four games at eaoh session, and fivo on tho final. It is marvellous what a grip snooker has on present-day billiardists. Go into a large room, and you will find four out of six tables going ut the coloured-ball game, and some of the amateurs are rare hands at it, too! ' Each room has its embryo champion, who can "hole the cherry" at lightning speed, but with little care for safety or other tactics. They, are mostly "dashers." Consequent on the popularity of snooker,- the match between the above two should draw well, as it is the first publio exhibition given in Sydney by high-class players.
