Tlio scow Whangaroa, which loft Mokau on May 31 for Sydney, has been abandoned near Lord noire Island in a waterlogged condition. The crew aro safo there, awaiting tho arrival of the Sydney steamer. Tho news has been brought by tho Island -steamer Makambo. (Rec. July G, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, July G. A message received by tho Royal E.xchango Insurance Company states that the scow Whangaroa, which left Mokau on May 31, sprang a leak, and was abandoned at sea. The crew landed safely on Lord Howe Island. Tho 'Whangaroa is a scow of 132 tons, and is owned by Messrs. E. D. Piko and Co. Slifc sailed from Mokau, Now Zealand, on May 31, for Sydney, with a load of timber. Last. July the Whangaroa had an unusually trying trip from Sydney. She was laden with hardwood piles and gilders, and her troubles began off tho coast of New South Wales. She ran into the storm that did so much havoc in Sydney. When licarina New Zealand tho weather improved. The. Whangaroa 1 was 28 days on the trip across to tho Dominion.
