It was eventually decided to form an association in Masterton. Over 300 cows were guaranteed in the room, and it is anticipated that three times as many were available. A committee was appointed to canvass the district for further support. The Department hope to sccure a guarantee of 3000 cows, and hove one big association for the whole of tho Wairanpn. A keen frost has been registered in Masterton, no fewer than twelve degrees being recorded. AVhat promised to he a delightful day, however, was spoilt by a sudden fall in the barometer, and ail unexpected downpour of rain. An interesting case was heard in the Magistrate's Court at Masterton this morning, when John M'Govcrn, farmer, claimed from Nicol and Edwards, land agents, the sum of j£GO paid as commission on the sale of a farm. It appears that Nicol and Edwards introduced a buyer to M'Govcrn, and the agreement to purchase having been signed, tho agents were paid their commission. It subsequently transpired that M'Govcrn could not give a freehold title to the land, and the transaction fell through. Tho magistrate has reserved his judgment on nonsuit points raised that the plaintiff, by his own default, had prevented the completion of the purchase. The Masterton Chess Club has been making excellent progress of late, and thu rooms are well patronised. Last night a sides' match._ played by teams, selected by Messrs. AV. I{. ICummcr and C.
