MIRAMAR AFFAIRS.

MEETI.N'G OF THE COUNCIL. The Miramar Borough Council met last evraing, thore being present: The Mayor (Mr John Brodio), <ind Councillors Eicliards, Bowie, I.aurcnson, Stone, Bell, and Tolford. On the recommendation of the Town Hull Committee, Mr. \V. Groy Young was appointed architect for the new Town Hall, with instructions to prepare plans for a building at an estimated cost of ,£650. , ,

The Water Supply and Drainage Committee reported that it had considered tho question of the purchase of the city's electric lighting installation, and recommended that the city be informed: ft) That the council proposed to undertake the public lighting of the district, and would be prepared to supply private consumers; (2) that the council proposed to give them notice requiring them to sell the undertaking at a valuation; (3), that the council wished to know tho price at which the installation could be purchased, with a view to taking over at an earlier date than that fixed by law. • The committee also recommended that Mr. F. Black be asked to report upon Mr. Mestayer's proposals for the supply of electricity for lighting and tramways. Tho report was adapted. ,

Tho statement of finances showed that tho district fund account was in credit by .£1053 lis.; the improvements loam account was also in credit by .£32IG ss. 2d.

On the recommendation of the Tramways Committed, it was decided that a concession be given to the Labour Day Committee of one-third of the net running profit for the day on the Miramar North line.

At a special meeting held immediately prior to the ordinary meeting of the council, it was resolved to strike a rate of id. in the £ on the unimproved value for the Miramar wharf loan of J25000. The abovo resolution will be formally confirmed next month.
