The fortnightly meeting of the Palmer* 9 eton Borougli Council was held on Tues--1 <lay night, there being present the Mayor' , (ill'. J. A. Nash), and Councillors 1\ x iu'owlem, A. E. Clausen, 11. O'Kcilly, B. Beale, 0. ll'Carty, 11. Haydon, \\\ 1 fjtulibs, E. J. Armstrong, and F. j. 1 Nathan. ' • ' ) The Palmcrston Brass Band submitted 1 a list of concerts which it was proposed i to givo during the coming year. The list i- was referred to tho Opera llouso Comv niiltee, it lieing suggested tliat th.e baud r should givo more performances in tho summer months, and fewer in tho winter. The engineer reported that willows had been planted on tho Manawatu River-bed iu tho borough possiCTe, nnd g that it was timo that tho osier willows B wore sold as, if left longer, they would be unfit for basket-work. ' The Sub-Inspector of Police wrote stat- . ing that a case had been brought against a motorist, but the,magistrate had'ruled that cars »>ould go at from 15 to 20 miles an hour—lt was decided to send a remit to tho Municipal .Conferences on the matter. Tho Library Committee report was ready, and it was decided to call for ten--1 dfrs.for the supply of magazines for two 5 yWi?!,'';,-The'librarian at 'Wellington oft'er- ? Ed to give the committee advice as to tho | working of the library, and it was decid- ' ed to accept the assistance preferred with 1 thanks, i . On tho reading of the engineers feport, 1 a coneidcraWb amount of discussion took place on the question of work going on in raising tho waterworks dam at Tiritea, 1 Councillor Nathan moving that the engineer should supply tho council with specifications of, the work, which was being carried out by day labour. Tho question was eventually hold over till next meeting, notice of motion being given that the engineer supnl.v full information as to how the work was being carried out. It was resolved to fix the standard ware for labourers at 95., the men to be paid according to ability. Mr. Andrew .Tnek waited on the council ill connection with the vexed question of sewer ventilators. He nsked that a resolution passed iu 15)07, which practically gave a monopoly, should be rescinded.—Tho motion was referred to tho Public Works Committee.
