NEW EASTBOURNE PARISH. A motion was put forward by the Key Joshua Jones, that the °[ 4 ° parish of St. James s, Lower Mutt, be altered with a view to the creation of a new parochial district at laislbouino. Speakm" to the motion Mr. Jones remarked that although the work at Eastbourne at the outset would bo light, t would soon increase. Personally he felt that ho could not give tho necessary time to tho two districts. Eastbourne was isolated from the Hutt and had already controlled its own business. They £o able to raise tho necessary stipend without any assistance from the general church fund—(applause)—but they would doubtless be glad to accept any assistance for house allowance that mi D li.t be made. He did not wish to see any gap between the separation of the parishes, and would move that tho following words be added to the resolution: , provided that this resolution be not; carried into until tho Bishop is prepared to make an appointment-lor the mw iljsrrict. The motion was seconded by Mr. U. Al. Yeats, Lower Hutt. Captain Hewitt objected to the boundaries of the new district not being defined and suggested .that the matter be referred to the .Standing Committee for a report'to-tho next Synod. „ At length it was decided to-refer tho matter of boundaries to a committee which will report to-day. A THANIC OFFERING. Archdeacon Fancourt moved: "That the sum of .£7OO allocated to this diocese from tho great thank offering on tho occasion of tho Pan-Anglican Church Congress in London be entrusted to t'ho Standing Committee, and after mature consideration of tho question, be devoted to some educational purposes." The committee of Bishops which controlled the fund at Home, he said, wished the money applied for the education of girls. It would not be paid over- until, the committee was satisfied that it would be applied to some really useful purpose and unless some decision was come to speedily the allocation might be forfeited. Unless they could augment the allocation sufficiently to warrant the starting of an educational institute on a proper basis it would bo little use accepting the money at all. . ,
The Rev. Joshua Jones seconded the motion.
The chairman said he had received no direct information in regard to the matter, all he knew being verbal information. If wo could not use t'ho grant lie did not think New Zealand would lose it, but rnther that it would go to Auckland and Dunediri. The motion was carried. A PERMANENT MISSION AGENCY. Archdeacon Fancourt moved: That the fhankolYeriug raised in the diocese in connection with, the recent mission lie entrusted to tho guardianship of the Standing Committee, to be by it devoted lo the establishment of a permanent Mission Agency, as resolved by Synod in last year's session, so soon as it is possible for it to doviso a satisfactory working schcmo for giving etTect to tho resolution already passed by Synod. The snin, ho said, was about ,£B7O, and he thought it might be invested in a way'that it would bring in a permanent income for a permanent work. This present sum might be supplemented Inter, i Tho motion was seconded by the Kev. A. LW, H. Compton, and carried after a short discussion.
