SYDNEY LABOUR SHORTAGE.
TRADES HALL VIEW. By TclecraDli—Press Association— Copyright Sydney, July 5. Tho Trades Hall authorities admit that there is a shortage of labour in various industries at the present time. They, claim that this is a result of labour legislation, and of confidence of the employers in the Labour Government. THE TARIFF AND PROSPERITY. (Rec. July 5, 7 p.m.) Sydney, July 5. In giving evidence before tho Shortage of Labour Commission, the representatives of several tailoring firms stated that their trade was seriously hampered owing to tho scarcity of hands, and much business had been refused in consequence. Olio witness said that in recent years there had been a largo increase in the general prosperity. Feople were wearing more and better clothes. Since the introduction of Federation, and the imposition of Customs duties that followed it, the State's industries had made great strides, and now industries were rapidly springing up. Even with a largely-increased labour supply there would bo no fear of overproduction during the next ten years.' -
