CONGRATULATORY CABLEGRAM DISCUSSED. (By Telegraph— Press Associatlon.l Christchurch, July 5. The Ijnronetcy conferred on Sir Joseph Ward was discussed briefly at a meeting of the Lytteiton Harbour Board to<lay. The chairman • (Jlr. H. Friedlander) stated that oiv behaJf of' the board he had sent a cablegram of congratulation to Sir Joseph Ward, and had received a reply thanking tlic board. Ho moTed that his action be confirmed. Mr. R. Jloore said that he did not approve of the issue of hereditary titles to people holding positions such as Sir Joseph. Ward held in this country. Mr. J. J. Dougall took up tlio , sarno view. It would have been all right if Sir Joseph Ward intended to stop in England, but ho could seo 110 credit to the country in the decoration. Mr. Kaye said .that apart from their individual political views, they must recognise that Sir Joseph Ward had carried out his duties exceedingly well. The motion was carried.
