■Messrs. Balgety and Co., Ltd., report hnvintr held their usual weekly sale a', the Sohvay yards (Jlastertnu) ye.-terdav. when they offered a small yarding of both r.licop and cattle. They report having h"d a good clearance. The sheep cr.try comprised only ewes in lamb and wno'ly lambs which met with good competition. The cattle entry was very small, only four pens coming forward. The yaruing of store sheep was- ratlu-r larger than la-rt week, and consisted principally of hoggets a few lines of medium and aged sorts of ewes, and a few pens of v,-ethers. There was good demand for all classes, and there was a clearance at the previous week's rates, which were firmly maintained. Best hoggets made 10s. 6d.; medium. 9s. to 9s. 9d.: sinoll halfbred wether hoggets, 75.; culls, <ss. 6fl. to 6s. 6d.; medium ewe hoggets, lis. JCd.; crossbred wethers, los. to 13s. 3d.; halfbred wethers in law condition, 9.-. S>d.; four ond sixtooth ewes, Ks.: four, six, and full-mouth halfbv-'I ewes (an exceptionally good line), 16s. 4d. lo 16s. Sri.; two-tooth ewes, 15s. &!.; aged and in low condition, Cs. 4d. to Gs. 6d.
The yarding of fat lambs totalled only about 125 C, of which only a small propor- 1 lion were of good quality. There was a. good demand for export, and the balance was taken by butchers, the range of prices being l£s. to 13s. Ed. There was a moderate entry of fat sheep of mixed Quality, including a number of lines of very prims wethers. There was good keen competition, both on the part, of exporters and butchers, and prices improved to tho extent of fully 6d. to Is. per liead. A pen of prime Southdown cross wethers sent in by Mr. W. J. Jenkins, of Waddington, made 455. The range of prices was:—Extra prime wethers, to 455.: prime, 18s. 6d. to 245. 9d.: medium, 16s. to 18s.; light, 13s. to 15s. 6d.; extra, prime ewes, lo 12s. 3d.; prime, 15s. 6(1. to ZOs, 3d.; medium. 10s. to 155.; aged and light, Us. to lis. 9d.; merino wethers, 12s. Id. The supply of beef comprised 287 head, including some from the North Island. The duality was generally good, and there was a foil' demand, prices being a shade firmer without a ouotable advance. Steers made £7 to £11 lbs.; and .extra- to £17; heifers, £5 17s. 6d. to £8 lCs.: extra, to £13 17s. 6d.; and cows, £4 7s. 6d. to £9, equal to 225. 6d. to 265. 6d. for prime. .:Bs. for extra, 20s. to 225. for medium, and 19s. to 19s. 6d. for cow and inferior per ICOlb. There was an average entry of veal calves, and they made 4s. 6d. to 555., and extra-well grown to £5 2?. 6d..
