' , ASCOT AT AUCKLAND. Telegraphic advice receivcd> from Auckland by the local agents of the New Zealand Shipping Company announces the arrival of the chartered steamer Ascot, from Montreal. She is expected to leave tho northern port for Wellington to-morrow, and will arrive here on Saturday next.
KIA ORA ARRIVES HOME. The local agents of the Shaw, SaviU and Albion Company have been advised that the steamer Kia Ora. which left Auckland for London on May Iβ. arrived at her destination on the morning of July 3. CORINNA CONVOYS TAKAPUNA. The disabled steamer Takapuna, now at Wellington, will bo convoyed . to Port Chalmers by the Corinna,. and not tho Flora, as the company previously announced. The Corinna arrives" here - from the south to-day, and leaves this evening for Nelson and New Plymouth. From the latter port the vessel comes back to Wellington direct, and leaves with the Takapuna on Monday next. ARRIVAL OF. THE TONGARIRO. Tongariro, E.M.S., of the' New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet, arrived at Wellington from London at 6.58 a.m. yesterday, and berthed at the King's Wharf So. 5 at 8.55 a.m., after a passage of 49 days. A report of the voyage states that the vessel left London on May 15 (four days late), at 1.20 p.m., and had fine weather down Channel and across "the Bay," thence northerly v.inds to Tcneriffc, which port was reached on Sunday, May 21 at 2.7 p.m. Coaled and proceeded on voyage at 6.45 a.m. on following day. Fine weather and moderate trades were experienced till lCdeg. N. The S.B. trades were met sdeg. north of the line, and from there to within 150 miles of Cape Town rough seas. The ship then ran into a, thick fog, which lasted until port was mado on Wednesiay, Juno 7, at 10.55 a.m. Here passengers and mails were embarked, and the ship left tho same day at 1.10 p.m. Northerly winds prevailed across the Southern Ocean to JTobart, where the Torigariro arrived on Wednesday, June 28, at 4.20 p.m. No ice or wreckage was seen during thn voyage. At Ilobart she discharged 444 tons of cargo and landed 76 pa-sreneors for Australian ports. The lasl stasc of the voyage was entered on on June 29, at 11.35 a.m., the vessel arriving in tho stream an stated above.' ■ There are 259 passengers and upwards oi 60DO tons of cargo for New Zealand ports. The Tongariro is expected to be.clear of her Wpllintton cargo nn Saturday, and leaves for Lyttelton on Sunday morning. IN DISTRKSS AND SHORT OF COAL. UNEXPECTED ARRIVAL HERE. About 1 p.m. yesterday a strange steamer was observed making for Wellington Heads in very light trim. She came right in and cruised round, finally dropping anchor off Kaiwnrra. Tho vessel turned out to be the tramp steamer FeUciana, bou=d from Taicahuano. Chile, to Newcastle. She put in short of coal, and nl?o for tho purpose of undo--going Lloyds' survey. ' It appears that while the vessel was en voyage she fe!! in with very heavy weather, and, being in light trim, received :>. severe buffeting, bcsidc3 being driven off her course. The propeller raced considerably in the heavy teas, and the eteamer was flung about in nn -larming manner. Tho after-hold was flooded with water so as to put her deeper by the stern, and thus allow the propeller to get a crip. During this time it was found that the coal- supply was running short, and a course was therefore shaped for Wellington. It is that, owing o the severe Etrain placed upon the empty vessel, some of her machinery has been

By the Hincmoa, which arrived at Wellington from the southern lighthouses trip yesterday, the ill-rated Waikare's anchor chain came to hand. It was picked up in Dusky Sound, the scene of the wreck. 11.M.5. Pioneer left Wellington for Picton shortly after 9 a.m. yesterday. The warship has gone across to tho Sounds to do firing practice, and is due back in port about July 9. She remains hero until the end of the month, wheu she proceeds to Lyttelton. On her arrival from' Sydney this morning the Manuka will berth at the Queen's Wharf No. 6. •'... was originally intended to dispatch the A. and Ai Line's chartered steamer irlo-Ciilumbian from New York for NewZealand ports on July 10. Word has been received by the local agents of the company stating that the- charter has been withdrawn. A ttcamcr has been substituted to take her place, and will leave :sc\v York on August 21. Duo at .Wellington on or about July 19. the Tyser liner Star of Scotland has 1483 tons of London cargo to discharge at this port. Mr. M'Murrich,. second, engineer of the Mapou.riki, signed off the vessel at Wellington yesterday. On Friday next the Hinemoa leaves port for Cape Pallissr and Cape Campbell lighthouses. On her return the vessel's stem will be permanently repaired, the injury having been sustained by the Himitangi Colliding with it at Lyttelton.
