Mrs. .O'Shaughnessy was examined at length as to the occupants of her house on the night the woman died. She stated that- on returning home between 11.25 and 11.15 p.m., after a short absence, she found a strange woman (deceased) in her house. The woman was lying on a bed Witness asked who she was, and if she would have a , doctor. She got no reply. Later she repeated the question. Deceased shook her head. Froth was then coming from the woman's mouth. About .1 a.m. she sent her husband for a doctor. The woman was dead before the doctor arrived. Witness denied having previously seon a bottle of tabloids of porchloride of mercury before. Francis Amelia Cniicksliank,. sister of deceased, stated that her sister had been employed as a lady'β-holp at, Epsom, and then went tn her parents' home at Oncwhero. At the beginning of June deceased came t-o town to stay with witness, and on June- 12 intimated that slip was going to Helensvillo k> l-nkoup a relieving situation as lady's help in a family there. She packed up some of' her elothiiisr in the hamper produced, and said sho would first visit a Mis? Butler in Eden Terrace, and then catch the train at Kingsland. Witness .had no reason for suspecting anything wns wrong. Witness did not see her sister a.»ain alive, but saw the body in the morgue on June 15. Miss Butler Stated that- deceased had visited her on the date named by a previous witness, and, in the course of a conversation, witness had mentioned the name of Mrs. O'Shaughnessy, n whoso honso Miss Holland was afterwards found dead.
