FEDERAL REVENUE ESTIMATE. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyrieht Melbourne, July i. The Federal Treasurer roughly estimates that the revenue for the current financial year will be .£20,000,000, including ,£13,000,000 from Customs ancf Excise, and .£1,350,000 from land tax. The Treasurer adds that with the heavy new liabilities involved in the control of tho Northern Territory, the payment of interest on and establishment of a sinking fund in connection with payment for properties transferred from tho Slates, tho construction of the Transcontinental Railway, and the building of the Federal capital, besides the heavy naval and military expenditure, it will be necessary carefully to control expenditure in order to show a credit balance at the end of tho year. THE PENSIONS BILL. Melbourne, July 4. A Parliamentary return shows that oldage and invalid pensions cost the Commonwealth .£2,085,000 annually. The old-age pensioners number 76,089, and the invalid pensioners 7310. QUEENSLAND REVENUE. • Brisbane, July 4. The year's revenue of Queensland amounted to ,£5,320,000, an increase of '■£200,755.' By Telegraph— Press Association— Copyriclit Melbourne, July 4. ,The annual report of the Total Abstinence Society states that in two years tho number of charges of drunkenness has been reduced nearly one-eighth. The total amount spent in Victoria on alcoholic liquors in 1909 was a decrease of .£91,239 as compared with the previous year.
