MASTERTON NOTES.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, July 3. On Saturday last Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., disposed of a farm of 242 acres at Weraiti, tho property of (lie executors in the estate of the lato Mr; Robert Johnstone, at .£25 10s. per acre. The purchaser . was Mr. AV. B-. Chennells, who. fras acting as agent for Mr, J. M'Crae, of Stronvar. The Masterton Golf Club, defeated Greytown on the. Lansdowne 'inks on Saturday by four matches to three. The scores were as follow (Masterton being mentioned first in each lease):—C. Perry lost to J. Came Bidwill, 7 down, G to play; V. E. Donald lost to A, B. Balfour, 7 down, ,G to play; U. Foley lost to AV. J. Feast, 2 down; X. H. James beat A. L. Webster,- li up, 4 to play; G. G. Aitkcn beat H. Feast, 2 up; 11. H. Donald beat L. Rhodes, 1 up, 3 to play; R. Messenger beat A. E. Feast, 2 up, 1 to play; G. W. Arlidge beat M'Kinnon, 5 up,' 4 to play. - - Mr. W. 11. Cook, of Petoae, who has been appoiuted Town Clerk and Engineer to tho Borough of Hastings, is. wellknown in Masterton, haviDg resided here for a number of years. Rain fell in Masterton on twenty days during the month of June, tho rainfall registered .being 3.31 inches. This is a less quantity than was registered for the tame month last year.

A four-roomed cottage at Hamua, owned by Mr'. Niroalia Tamaki,' was destroyed by fire on Saturday.

Messrs. H. A. Ncvins, J. M. Jaines, D. M'Kenzie, and J. C. M'Killop, of Masterton, were Unions the purchasers of Hereford stock at the Burford dispersal sale at Feilding last week. i'hj Hereford is comiug into favour with breeders of fat stock, and the introduction of the Burford strain will do much to improve the quality of local cattle. Several breeders—notably Messrs. W. Perry and W. H.. Buick—also acquired a number of the Bui ford Romncy sheep. Tho weather has taken a turn for the better, mid to-day was beautifully fine, though somewhat cold in the morning. The ranges are now covered in snow.
