OBITUARY.
► COLONEL TOM PRICE. Bit TclecraDh—Press Association—Oonyrizhl (Rec. July 3, 9.40 p.m.) Melbourne, Julj 3. The death is announced of Colonel Tom Price, aged 69. The deceased officer commanded the Victorian Mounted Rifles in tho Boer War, and was afterwards Commandant of the Victorian forces until his retirement in 1904. The deceased Colonel' was' a son of Mr. John Price,supposed to bo the original of Maurice Frere, in Marcus Clarke's novel, "For tho Term of' his Natural Life." Ho was ultimately murdered by convicts, ten men being executed for the'crime.
Colonel Price himself became notorious over his alleged order to the troops during the maritime strike of 1890 to "Fire low and lay 'em out!"
